Judy Young began teaching Accent Reduction and Speech Improvement in 1991. She attended Columbia College Chicago, where she studied communication and media arts, acting and creative writing. She also studied voice for singing at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.
She went on to study acting and speech at the Ted Liss Acting Studio in Chicago, now known as the Chicago Actor’s Studio. There she received extensive training in acting and speech from the late Ted Liss, then one of the top voice talents and speech instructors in the U.S. Among the alumni of the Ted Liss Acting Studio are Virginia Madsen, Karl Malden, Tom Bosley, Geraldine Page and Robert Urich.
Judy originally taught speech only to actors. As more and more actors from other countries came to her for assistance in reducing their accents, she realized that this speech technique could be of great benefit to anyone who wished to speak English better. She then refined and improved upon what she had learned in order to help people to speak English more clearly and effectively.
According to Judy, "I find helping others to speak English better to be an extremely rewarding thing to do. Having worked with students of many nationalities, I decided to put together a workbook that can be easily understood and simple to apply. I know how frustrating it can be when one is not fully or clearly understood. My purpose in teaching and in creating this workbook is to help others achieve better speech and therefore, better understanding."
Judy teaches accent reduction and speech improvement in the Los Angeles area.
